English Lessons in Melbourne

As the official language of more than 60 countries, English is one of the most spoken tongues in the world. So, in an attempt to facilitate communication and performance across geographically diverse functions and business endeavours, many international companies have chosen English as their working language. And this is especially true in the case of businesses based in Melbourne, like Airbus or Nokia, where more than 80% of the population speak only English.

So, if you are planning to move to Melbourne or want to establish friendly business relations with companies based there, then acquiring English is a wise choice. Contact us at Listen & Learn today and we will prepare a personalised programme that suits your skills and needs. For example, if you’re a Spanish or Portuguese native speaker, you might find interrogative inversions a bit complicated. In English, questions are made by changing the order of the words, something that doesn’t exist in Latin languages. Also, word order is crucial in many other occasions, like when describing nouns. Instead of “perro negro” (dog black), in English, you should phrase it as “black dog” (first the noun, then the adjective).

But not everything about learning English is difficult. For instance, many words are used as verbs and nouns alike, like “shoulder”, which represents a body part and the action of pushing against something using (obviously) your shoulder. This means you don’t have to memorise new vocabulary but learn how to use the words you already know in alternative ways. Contact us at Listen & Learn today and soon you’ll be speaking English fluently and naturally!

California Dreaming is a popular American song from the 1960s you can use to take your listening skills and English vocabulary to the next level, especially if you are a beginner. For example, you will learn vocabulary about the weather and the seasons (“cold winter’s day”, “scorching hot”, “windy”) and colours (brown, grey, red), as the poetic persona expresses his longing for the warmth of California’s weather.
